Weddings take place at all sorts of sites: from private farms to out in the woods, and everywhere in between. While we love the convenience of indoor and the more traditional event spaces, there’s so much charm in a private, remote getaway. They’re more unique and often intimate. But planning a wedding at a less traditional place requires some additional attention to detail. We’ve listed out some things to consider when using a remote location for your wedding below.
Ceremony and Reception?
One idea is to have the ceremony at the remote location and transition to a more efficient location for the reception. You get the convenience of a legitimate site without compromising your dream ceremony spot.
Permits and ordinances?
We’re no experts on what’s legal… (we’re a dress shop after all, ask us about silhouettes and we’re your gals!) But it’s important to check local regulations that may take into account: your guest count, privacy, noise, open flames, etc. If you’re looking to get married at a state park, check here for a guide on next steps. Long story short – do your research! (or… book a wedding planner and ask for assistance). 😉
Getting married on a beach? Or deep in a forest? Where will people park? Will there be wheelchair access? It’s important to consider how accessible your site is it is for your guests, accommodate those who you know need extra help, and also give a fair warning to everyone else – as in heels and dirt roads usually don’t mix.
Of course, this is the obvious one. Weather is the ultimate unpredictable component to any special event. Have a plan B (hello tents!) and offer solutions for extreme cold or hot weather. A great idea is to offer blankets or fans to help counteract any unpleasant environments.
Well, everyone has to go at some point or another. (is it just us or do the lines seem longer at these types of events?) It’s a necessity and if you can’t accommodate you guests, people aren’t going to be happy about it. Opt for a portable toilet system or better yet: bathroom trailers. They are sleek and elegant on the outside, and upscale on the inside. A win, win. See an example below from Fancy Flush
